The 1st International Composers’ Competition WINDSTREAM 2014
The 1st International Composers’ Competition WINDSTREAM 2014 took place in frames of the Spring Festival WINDSTREAM and was organized by the Orchestra RIGA (RIGA Professional Symphonic Band) in collaboration with the Riga 2014 Foundation – the organizer of the European Capital of Culture Year in Latvia. The International Composers Competition WINDSTREAM 2014 was an integral part of the European Capital of Culture Programme and is realised under the sign of J. S. Bach.
First Prize of the International Composers’ Competition WINDSTREAM 2014 was awarded to the composition “Motus contrarius”, composer Jukka-Pekka Lehto (Finland); second prize – “Astrolabio”, composer Girolamo Deraco (Italy); third prize – “Mir geht ein Licht auf”, composer Gundega Šmite (Latvija) .
The compositions that were selected for the Final Round were performed by the RIGA Professional Symphonic Band under the baton of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš on April 20 at 7 p.m. at the Great Guild Concert Hall – at the Awards Ceremony and Laureate Concert.
The jury consisted of composer and conductor Jan Van der Roost (Belgium), composer and conductor Franco Cesarini (Switzerland), composer Toshio Mashima (Japan), conductor Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and composer Andris Dzenītis (Latvia).
The musicians of the Orchestra RIGA gave their choice award to the composition “Astrolabio”, composer Girolamo Deraco.
